Song of the Day: "Golden" by Jill Scott

Today's Song of the Day is "Golden" and comes from soul siren Jill Scott.
"Golden" is very timeless, universal and a beautiful song.
The uptempo and positive song just makes me feel really good.
Be on the lookout because Scott has new music coming out this summer and she'll be touring with the sexiness that is Maxwell.
Listen and enjoy!

Beauty products you grew up with...

The other day, I was thinking about beauty products I grew up using. I wasn't as loyal to brands and heavily into as products like I am now, but I still had my favorites. Here are a few that I grew up loving:

Vaseline: You couldn't go wrong with petroleum jelly in my house. My adoptive mother would slather so much of this all over my body, that me and my siblings would joke each other for having shiny faces. Even though my family used the GIGANTIC jar, it seemed like we always ran out of Vaseline. I used it as a lip balm, hair shield when I got relaxers and skin moisturizer. I was so glad when I stopped using this greasy stuff.

ChapStick: This was the second product I religiously applied to my kisser. The first was Vaseline, of course. But I liked the simplicity of ChapStick. There was nothing extra about it. For a little tube of ChapStick, it just was. And it was only 99 cents. Like forgetting a cell phone, I felt naked when I left the home without my tube of ChapStick.

Avon deodorant: I used to get excited when a new Avon booklet came out. In addition to their lip stuff, I heavily used their deodorants. My adoptive mother would spend like $20 on these little bottles of their deodorants. Avon had them in various kinds. I was always an athlete so they worked for a little while. Then somewhere in high school, I lost interest in them. That's when I switched to Secret deodorant.

Lip Smackers: I used to be obsessed with Lip Smackers!!! I loved the flavors and the packaging. I always used to wonder how in thee heck someone could "make" Dr. Pepper and Sprite-flavored chap stick. I used to always lick my lips after putting them on. Whenever I got extra money, it went straight towards a tube of Lip Smackers.

What were some beauty products you grew up with??? What were your fave products??

National Record Store Day is tomorrow

National Record Store Day is tomorrow, April 17.
On this day, independently-owned record stores will collaborate with artists to celebrate the art and expression music, according to www.recordstoreday.com.
Also, Special musical releases and purchases are made exclusively for the day.
Here's a list of stores in Maryland that will be participating in the day.
I'm thinking about going to one of my fave records stores Sound Garden in Baltimore.
Angie Stone is supposed to be performing there on Saturday.
Plus, I haven't picked up any new vinyl in some months.
Happy record store day!

Nails of the Week: Past two weeks edition

I've been doing my nails like crazy and there have been a few new polish lines that I recently tried.
Wet n wild has a new formula called Mega Last that's supposed to rival department store polishes.
Also, Sally Hansen has a new Complete Salon Manicure polish that's supposed to encompass a base coat, topcoat, color, growth treatment and strengthener.

Here are several swatches from each line:

L'Oreal HIP shadow pigments

I love L'Oreal HIP products.
They're shiny, dramatic and I like to call them the "poor woman's MAC" because they are pretty affordable.
I usually don't use pigments but I recently bought this little bottle of L'Oreal HiP shadow shocking pigments in "striving," which is a darkish-green hue.
It was on clearance at my local Target and I used a coupon so I paid no more than around $3 for it.
OK now, HiP stands for "high intensity pigment" and they weren't lying about that. The shadow is very shiny and shimmery but makes for a dramatic and sexy eye.
And I like how it came with a mini brush, which made application somewhat easier.

Here's a swatch of it on my arm:

Have you used HIP products before? If so, what do you think of them?

What did your parents teach you about money??

Save.
Save again.
And save some more.
That's what my adopted mother always used to tell me about money.
Every paycheck I got, I'd put a little something away.
Sometimes it would be $20. Sometimes it would be $50.
Whatever the amount, I always managed to stash something in my little savings account.
And I still save to this day.
So what did your parents teach you about money??
Do you still follow their advice today?
